This is a nice product of LJseek's archiving activities -- shows you how many links there are to your journal from other journals. Not exhaustive, but fairly indicative I guess. (And yes, mine is kind of woeful...)

...is there any way to see what these links actually are ? It's far from clear to me why anyone would link to my journal. (Or does use of <lj user="bateleur"> count ? That might explain it.)

Click on the image -- it's hyperlinked to http://www.ljseek.com/links/bateleur. AFAICS it is just counting links to journal posts, not uses of "bateleur" -- most of yors seem to be moose-related!

Heh, that's a bit feeble! -- you'd think it would be easy enough to screen those out. I'll make the appropriate feature request to them...
