The Ernie Wise one. My own question was "7,Who made the UK's first mobile phone call?", so of course 5 and 6 were also considered correct. Hmm, I thought that was pretty obscure, but I guess not!

Five of you got it right, ie:

brixtonbrood
cuthbertcross
jiggery_pokery
mooism
thecesspit

plus [livejournal.com profile] fractalgeek who heroically refrained from picking one of them, and voted for #2 instead.

The favourite was an easy win for "8,Who once asked US President Bill Clinton at a rally in Florida 'Do you speak English?'", so step forward [livejournal.com profile] bateleur to take a bow. (Inspired!)

There were 4 guesses for #5 and none for #6, so in an act of unilateral fiat I thought it would be fairer to split them evenly. Interesting psychology though! So that means 1 for cuthbertcross and mooism, 2 for fractalgeek and jiggery_pokery, 3 for queenortart.

That means the current scores are:

mooism 17/8
bateleur 12/7
fractalgeek 12/7
bibliogirl 11/7
dr_bob 10/7
brixtonbrood 8/6
queenortart 8/8
jiggery_pokery 8/9
liriselei 8/9
cuthbertcross 7/7
nickeyb 4/4
wimble 4/5
thecesspit 2/4
al_fruitbat 1/1
ar_gemlad 1/1
jackfirecat 1/1
rotwang 1/1
cardinalsin 1/2
karohemd 0/1
verlaine 0/1

so it's all to do to catch [livejournal.com profile] mooism!

Hmm, I thought that was pretty obscure, but I guess not!

If you ever run this again, I have two tips:

1) Google
2) Wikipedia

The entry which the latter provides for Mr Wise mentions the mobile phone thing, which is why it's obvious (qv. the comment I made with my submission).

Mm, I wished about halfway through this session that I'd attempted to prevent any kind of reference, but it seemed a bit late by then.

So where did the Bill Clinton reference come from? I hunted for it online, found no evidence for it, and therefore assumed it was utter bollocks. Was it?

Yup. It was designed to tempt people who knew Wise had lived in Florida (for example, from having read Wikipedia)...

...which didn't work at all, but evidently people found it entertaining !

I've actually quite enjoyed searching down some of the references and checking whether some of the "hmm, that doesn't look quite right" were exact - the "300" was a case in point.

In setting, I've tried to come up with a question each time, then in about half the cases found something cooler after a search.
