Can anyone recommend a good place to get a load of 35mm slides converted to digital? Is it going to be hideously expensive whatever? Should I just get a transparency scanner and a slave to operate it?

Is a good song. But it's also what I now have in my living-room. The new DVD player responds (and not in a good way) to some of the buttons on the PVR remote.

Is there an easy workround for this sort of thing? -- some of you techbeasts out there must have experienced it before?

Anyone out there remember the happy days of Windows 98 SE? T's pc has a problem -- it boots up apparently OK, but freezes within about a minute of finishing populating the desktop. In safe mode, though, it's fine. I've done the obvious things like turning off all the startup gubbins, but no joy. Seen this sort of thing before?

A friend has a problem in Access, and I can't see how to get round it so I wondered if any of you might.

I'm thinking about getting an MP3 player, but rather than go into the tiresome business of researching the market myself, I thought I'd see if any of you guys are reasonably up to speed and could make recommendations!

This is one of those questions which gets asked quite often by someone or other, but the answer is amoving target -- so here we are again:

anyone out there recommend a good not-too-expensive domain hosting service?

I need it to include at least these features:

100MB or so space;
unlimited, or impressively high limit, bandwidth;
PHP 4.0.6 or later;
Perl 5.005 or later (NB not Safeperl);
MySQL 3.23 or later;
unlimited email addresses;
respond quickly and knowledgeably to emails;

and that fairly usual kind of jazz.

Or, equally usefully, a good review / comparison site, to see the contenders side-by-side.

I've been using Low Cost Names for a while now, but although the service is generally good I'm getting increasingly unimpressed with their support people's lack of clue when something does go wrong. (As it has today, in case anyone's been trying to mail me.)
