Sorry to see that
Jan Mark has died, at only 62. Only a few people have won the Carnegie Medal twice --
Thunder and Lightnings made a huge impresion on me a a kid, it seemed to speak to me in a way that more traditional kids' books didn't. And she carried on writing excellent stuff right up to this year --
The Eclipse of the Century is the most recent one I've read.
A couple of weeks ago she
reviewed Fly by Night, with warm praise ("Hardinge is a hugely talented writer of tireless invention and vivid prose") mixed with a little fair criticism ("undisciplined talent ... gets in the way of the action").
Shame, she will be missed.
