Momus cafeteria

Do you like Momus? If so you might be interested to know he's giving away MP3s of all his first six albums.
"Okay, this is quite a big decision, but I've taken it. Six Momus albums -- the ones I recorded for Alan McGee's Creation label between 1987 and 1993 -- are out of print. Creation doesn't exist any more, and in theory Sony owns the rights to these albums, but isn't doing anything with them and probably never will. In the meantime, only Russian pirates are profiting, charging punters for illegal downloads."

Edited to add the download link: http://www.ubu.com/sound/momus.html

Already downloaded them... I almost got round to posting something mentioning they were there.
Given that he is a pretentious git on some level I was surprised how much I liked them, notably [FX: files up iTunes] Enlightenment, The Homosexual, I Was A Maoist Intellectual. Englightenment particularly.

Mm, he certainly has a nice way with a lyric at times.

Other: Regardless of the music, his attack on the habit of rights holders to sit on right they have no intention of using is laudable.

Mm, I should have included that option in the poll. Ah well.

I have heard of him, but not heard his stuff. Point me at the download.

Gah! -- I meant to include the link in the post. Bad Mo! Here it is now:

I'm torn. I like his music but increasingly hate his journal. He's uptight and a bit creepy and the sort of blogger who is always setting up dogmatic binaries, saying one of two perfectly acceptable, compatible things is THE BEST THING EVER and the other MUST BE EXTERMINATED. I almost had a rant on my own journal the other day about a post he made (about John Cage vs. Glenn Branca, who are BOTH ace, so there) wherein he insists that all loud music is aggressive and egotistical. Dogmatic Binary of the Week, sigh.

But the man has a great way with a lyric. And he is a forward-thinking kinda guy on micro-payments for music and the like.

I've never actually read his blog, partly out of suspicion that it might be rather unbearable. But oh well, there are plenty of people whose art I like while detesting their personal opinions and / or mode of discourse.

Me too (step up, Allen Ginsberg and T. S. Eliot...)

And yay for The Complete History of Sexual Jealousy Parts 17-24!

I read it for a year, while he was going through a phase of linking to odd sound art projects. Well, I say read -- more, skimmed for links...

He then started describing his sexual attitudes in detail, and I took the hint and left

I note he voted in this poll, so maybe he's reading Everything You Say About Him.

noes! have I been rude?

Well, that is his job, as a creature of the interwebs.

Awesome - I've wanted a copy of The Poison Boyfriend for ages but couldn't find one.

Who wouldn't want one?

Bwa-ha-ha-ha. Oooh he's a prententious git and a weirdo creep (especially about sexual stuff -- shudder!) but occasionally hits the nadgers right on the nodger -- and if he's put "I am a kitten" on the download list grab it NOW!
