I always thought it was "like tears in (the) rain" - as in, a simile using tears dissolving/becoming indistinguishable in rain for the way in which memories slip away/become impossible to distinguish from external fictions, as opposed to a liking for crying in the rain.
Interesting the way different people hear the same thing though :)
