The main point of tiny footprint mode is not the few lines of info it gets rid of but the fact that when in that mode the minimum size for the Task Manager is removed, so you can make it as small as you like. (Yes, it's resizable even though it doesn't have a resize mark in the bottom right corner anymore.)
Since it's an "always on top" window, this is actually quite useful.
