The answer was "Kent", and my own question was "Who was the architect of Holkham Hall?" Depsite a number of stately-home-related variants, no-one managed to pose an equivalent, so that's some sort of improvement I guess. And only fractalgeek  spotted it as mine!

As for the favourite, it was a runaway victory for bateleur  with his inspired goat-related farrago -- and an honourable mention for liriselei  from those who remembered Salad. (Where are they now?)

Voting for other people's went 1 to bateleur , 2 each to mooism  and jiggery_pokery and a mighty 4 to fractalgeek. Honestly, as if I would stoop to having another cricket-related question already!
