In which either great minds think alike...

... or Lovecraft is Missing is written to very short deadlines.

You should read it, by the way, if you're at all interested in Lovecraft-type stuff (and why wouldn't you be?) -- an excellent style, setting and story which so far has just been deepening and deepening in all sorts of interesting directions.

Writing Lovecraft is Missing

I can't find the original quote to which this thread refers, but as the writer (and illustrator/colorist/letterer/blogger) of Lovecraft is Missing, I thought I ought to set your mind at rest...or possibly dispel all respect you might have for me.

I wrpte a 15 page outline before I started, but I write the scripts one at a time. I don't start the artwork until I have a script in hand, though I do tinker with the scipt as I go along. This last issue, #3, was a little more stressed than the previous two as I got a full time job and wasn't as far ahead as I wanted to be, so I need a biggger gap between that and issue 4. I am writing the script now, hope to start drawing in two weeks, and by the time April rolls around, have a comfortable lead like I had when I first started. I originally put up two pages a week, maybe I can return to that.

The writing and drawing are actually the least of it. What takes the most time is the coloring, where I spend 12-15 hours per page.

But, there you have it. I do appreciate your reading the strip.

Best,
Larry Latham

Thanks for coming here and commenting, Larry! -- and for creating this excellent comic.

I was referring to the "wear steel underpants" remark. I suggested it as the continuation dialogue in a comment on 30th Dec, and then it appeared in the next strip on 1st Jan. I figured either I had read your mind, or (a less serious suggestion) that you had written the dialogue for the strip only after seeing my comment!

It's the latter, and if you'll read the blog post, you'll see I gave you credit. I know a good line when I hear it.I had something about protecting the family jewels, but the steel underpants gag was just a better, shorter, snappier line. I simply edited the original page and reloaded it before it posted.

Ah, thanks for the credit! -- I hadn't seen that blog post. Really looking forward to Book 4 now!
